Tiles engraved on the floor, suggesting the dead are resurrected on planet Jupiter have been
showing up in weird places all around the world for 30 years.
This
strange message is contained on a tile surface and they have come to be
referred as “Toynbee Tiles” after the famous historian Arnold J. Toynbee.
The
tiles made their first appearance in Philadelphia. New York, of course, is no
exception. There are over 50 of them in Manhattan.
Most
of these contain the same message “Toynbee Idea in Movie 2001- Resurrect Dead
on Planet Jupiter”. It is believed that they are based on a Ray Bradbury
science fiction story “The Toynbee Convector, which speaks of the need for
humanity to always look for ways to survive, and on Kubrick’s classic movie
“2001: A Space Odyssey” which speaks of colonizing Jupiter.
The
majority of the 130 tiles known are in Philadelphia, which leads to believe the
inventor of these resides there.
After
so many years, these have become a
cult phenomenon where dozens of websites search for answers as to the identity
and the reason for their existence.
There has not yet been any concrete explanation to this.
